Posted on Thu, 8 Jun 2017
Question: I have shooting pains in the left side of my head. Have had it since 05/14/17. Tylenol is not helping. Went to ER, they said it was shingles. However, I do not have the symptons of Shingles. The shooting pain is excruciating.

Headache is not continuous. Mainly from ear to back quarter of head. No blurred vision, no redness of the eyes nor nasal congestion. No limb weakness, no loss of consciousness, no nausea, vomiting or sensitivity to light or sound. No sleep disturbances or anxiety issues. Just a thrust headache that feels like stabbing. The pain comes and goes. Sometimes more intense than others. But bad either way.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The headache seems to be trigeminal neuralgia or trigeminal autonomic cephalgias.
You need to take amitriptyline or lamotrigine or indomethacin for some relief.
Visit to a neurologist for examination and detailed evaluation.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
