What Causes Severe Throat Dryness While Treating Tonsillitis?

Question: HI
49 yr old woman in general good health- except
3+ weeks ago, came down with a bad case of tonsillitis. Very red inflamed tonsils, yellow, green pus evident at back of throat. Saw GP—ran strep test which was negative. Put on Z-pack. Some improvement after a week, but throat still very sore, terrible “globus” sensation. At this point, I visited an ENT, who looked down through nose, throat. Felt infection was waning, but noted throat still very red and inflamed. Put on Amox-Clav. 3 weeks later I am noting that when I wake, I am slightly congested. Looking at back of throat, there is nothing. But as soon as I am in the hot shower for about 5 minutes, I get a sense of thick mucus running down the back of my throat. Looking at it with a light, I see a stream or rope of yellow mucus hanging at the back. Sometimes it irritates enough (or I will attempt to remove with a q-tip) and I cough up blobs of bright yellow mucus. So my question is this--- I would guess this is coming from my sinuses. Is this “normal” am post nasal drip, or do I now have a sinus infection to contend with. (Or perhaps was concurrent with tonsillitis and is not completely resolved?) My throat is feels dry and sore throughout the day—mitigated by lots of warm tea and honey throughout. Though not as severe, I still am bothered my the “lump in throat” sensation as well. I only seem to cough up the mucus in the morning.

I’ve had several cases of strep and bronchitis in my life. But never one that has hung on as long as this seems to be. I am wondering if should go back to the ENT again regarding my sinuses now.
Thank you for your kind consideration of my question.

Brief Answer:
Most probably suffering from the bacterial sinusitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I have gone through query; it suggests that most probably you may be suffering from the bacterial sinusitis with tonsillitis.

Post nasal drip may be responsible for continuation of tonsillitis.

To rule out the other disease or to reach the near diagnosis you may go for the
1. CT scan paranasal sinuses and
2. Throat swab culture and antibiotic sensitivity.

Above mentioned test are absolutely necessary for further management.
