What Causes Severe Redness Of The Eyes While Treating Jaundice?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: Does Jaundice affect the whole eye, or can it affect the corners or bottom under eyelid. Sometimes my eyes are red or a hint of yellow under the eyelid on the bottom, but the top half is always very white. Should I worry?

Brief Answer:
yellow pigmentation of the eyes indicates jaundice & should be investigated

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thank you for posting query at HCM.

yellow pigmentation of any anatomical site within the white part of eye (sclera)- corners, top or bottom part- ; should always be INVESTIGATED.

however, red eye is NOT a presentation of jaundice.

Jaundice can be due to hemolytic anemia, hepatitis OR gall bladder pathology.

If yellow color over sclera (white part of eyes) is evident in your case , your are advised to visit hepatologist or gatsroenterologist at earliest and get following test done:
1. CBC 2. Liver function test 3. HBsAg and anti HCV
4. anti HAV 5. abdominal ultrasound if your obese or overweight
