What Causes Severe Pain In Tendons While Walking?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: Hi, I am almost 63 years old. I have been having alot of problems with my tendons. Extreme pain if I did a lot of walking during the day. It feels like they are going to explode. I just recently had my left thumb fused and a month goes by and I accidently grabbed a handle very hard with the left hand. I am bruised going up from the wrist to the elbow. The surgeon believes I may have ruptured the tendon in there. Is there diseases of the tendons or another disease and these problems are a side affect? I can't seem to get my doctor to want to investigate it. I want it to be done. I am tired of the excruciating pain in my legs.

Tendon related causes needn't be investigated but pain other causes possibl

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HelathcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I understand what the doctor is conveying. It seems to be due to age related degenerative changes and not some other disease. If your doctor feels there is a ruptured tendon, clinical examination should suffice and investigations would not help. A CT scan or an X ray does not detect changes in tendons. An MRI can be done but is pointless. If in apprehension, you may visit another surgeon and get a second opinion.

However, whether the pain is in tendons or in other surrounding structures needs to be evaluated. The pain could be in the joints or the bones. If that is the case, going to a surgeon is not a good idea. If that is the case, you should go to a general practitioner and if he thinks, he can refer you to a rheumatologist who would be able to undertake further tests for the same.
