What Causes Severe Pain In Left Corner Tooth And Gum?

Question: I was having severe pain left corner tooth/gum . The similar pain happened some 5 -6 years back also. The pain started last friday afternoon. I took brufen and the pain got subsided for few hours.. than on saturday it became unbearable and I consulted a dentist who tole me that my wisdom tooth is covered by gum and there is severe bacterial infection which has been caused be food particle gone inside. The doctor told me to take out wisdom tooth. I asked to fix the infection and said that I will get my wisdom tooth out later.

She gave me an antibiotic augmentin 625, imol and to took 2 augmentin and 2 imol on saturday but pain didnt go. Then on sunday i replaced imol with oxalgin DP and took the medicine and pain subsided but it came back again in afternoon. Then I took oxalgin again and it subsided but came back again around 9 pm evening.. i took medicine and the pain again came down .. morining i was fine.. i thought now will not get pain again.. but again today lunch it has started again..
my face has been swelling since last 2 days and I feel infection has not subsided despite of taking antibiotic and pain killers.

Please let me know if i should see other doctor or conitue medicine for couple of more days.

Read your query and understand your concern as you have pain and swelling in wisdom tooth dont be worried so much see what happened is when wisdom tooth is partialy erupted there is a flap present over the tooth which leads to deposition of food particle in between pericoronal flap and leads to bacterial infection .

For this I will suggest you to consult oral surgeon and go for investigation iopa xray of tooth if there is less space for eruption of wisdom tooth or xray reveals mesioangular impaction then go for Extraction (removal) of wisdom tooth . If there is adequate space present for eruption of wisdom tooth then you can take medication and take some measure till tooth erupts .

I will suggest you to do some remedies like -
- Do XXXXXXX warm saline rinses 3 to 4 times a day .
- Try to keep area clean and do Betadine mouthwash gargle twice daily .
- For pain and swelling continue with medicine Amoxicillin plus clavunic acid and metronidazole and for pain you can take analgesic like Diclomol Sp or Zerodol Sp by consulting with local doctor .
- consult oral surgeon or Hygienist for curretage of gums surrounding wisdom tooth that will give you releif in pain and reduce swelling .
-Dont do hot formentation .

Read your query. As you are taking Augmentin 625mg it contains amoxicilin plus clavunic acid, it is fine. Yes, you can take Metronidazole along with it (if you are not allergic ). Do XXXXXXX warm saline rinses 5 to 6 times, that will also give you relief in pain and swelling. Do betadine mouthwash rinses also.
