What Causes Severe Pain In Large Scoliosis In The Mid-back?

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Sep 2014
Question: Hello, I am experiencing severe, Knife-like pain in the center of my large scoliosis (lump) in the mid-back to near shoulder of the right side of my back. I have been taking Tramadol to relieve pain, however it is not doing much for it thus far. (I sometimes resort to it for a nerve condition in right leg)
I am a female of now 86 with no other current problems.. I do take Gabepentin, 3- 40 mg capsules daily.
This began on last Saturday and continues...

Brief Answer:
Get xray of dorsolumbar spine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your query.

Is there any history of recent trauma, pushing pulling of heavy object you have not mention.

Usually in scoliosis, whenever back pain is present, it may be because the curve in the spine is causing stress and pressure on the spinal discs, nerves, muscles, ligaments, or facet joints. It is not usually caused by the curve itself.

To rule out exact cause of pain get xray of dorsolumbar spine done in AP and Lateral view and send me the report.

Till then have in addition aceclofenac+thiocolchicoside by prescription of your doctor.

I hope it helps.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.

Your suggestion of an X-ray of dorsolumbar spine in two views is most likely sensible at this time, However do I need a physicians prescription to get such an x-ray at my local hospital? I am quite positive they will not do this just by my asking ...Can you give me something to show to them? Please let me know as it will probably take some time to set up such an appointment... DJC

Brief Answer:
Orthopedic surgeon will definitely advise it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the response my friend.

In my views if you tell your doctor that you have severe pain he/she will automatically advise you to get xray of dorsolumbar spine.

You can discus all this with your orthopedic surgeon.

Cause of pain which I have explain to you is also known to him.

There is no need to show him anything, just explain him pain you are suffering from, he will definitely advise you xray and medication.

I hope it helps.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.
