Question: Hi I am 58 year old. I have had back problems since I slipped a disc about 12 years ago. I have back massage regularly which helps a great deal. however about three weeks ago I have experienced a severe pain in my left groin area - this only occurs when I stand up. I can walk this pain off but when I actually stand up I am stooped over with pain for about thirty second until I can walk the pain off and straighten up. what do you think. incidentally I am also experiencing a lot of pain on my left side both in my hip and down my left leg, especially in bed.
would love a reply from you
thanks

Dear Madam,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well looking into your query I will like to tell you that it will be very difficult to comment on this as groin pain and hip pain have different etilogies but still I think this pain can be coming from nerve compressions you mentioned the history of having slipped disc so that can be pinching on the nerve leading to this pain reaching down your leg .
It will require physical examination like straight leg raising test and probably MRI of lumbosacral spine for confirmation of the diagnosis . Only after examination it can be determined that the pain is of bony origin or something else .If not bony a USG abdomen is definitely advisable .
So I will advise you to see treating doctor for this .
Take care.
