What Causes Severe Pain And Vomiting Of Percocet Pills After Surgery?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Sep 2015
Question: i just had surgery on Tuesday, I was prescribed to 7.7/325 Percocet for every 3-4 hours. The first few pills seemed to work, I think mainly because I was still a little loopy & relaxed from the surgery. Anyways, after the days went on, the pain would continue. So I would start taking 1 pill every 3-4 hours, like it was suggested, sometimes taking 1 & 1/2 pills, and still feeling nothing. I think I was hoping for it to make me feel better...but it didn't seem to really do much. I'm still in pain. I'm taking the pills as prescribed and here is what happened. a.) pain may have gone away, but again i had just come out of surgery, b.)pain is sill here c.) i got sick a couple of times and threw up the pills c.) didn't throw the pill up, but i never did feel any "temporary" pain relief, or any sort of relief you would expect from Percocet. .

Brief Answer:
Yeah that happens

Detailed Answer:
first, the opiates don't quite work the same way as aspirin like drugs. the narcotics work centrally to Change pain perception. while for most people it seems to work in some it does not.

reasonably there are two questions I think you are asking: is his normal.?
no, but it isn't that rare either. there is the question of whether there is a surgical complication.
post surgical infection would be expected to also have fever chills an increased whit blood cell count.

the other question would be what to do about pain.
I have sometimes seen lower strength narcotics work when Percocet failed.
most of these like car on are off the market in the us. however Tramadol is on the market and might be helpful; it is different.
aspirin like drugs should only be used if the surgeon says it is ok.

Hi, thank you for responding!
-I guess my main question would be what can i take instead of the Percocet, that is in that level of pain management? Percocet used to work for me!
-I can't take tramadol because of seizures, and i also cant take any kind of aspirin.
-If I had fever or an infection with this surgery, would the Percocet not work?
thanks!

Brief Answer:
I welcome follow ups

Detailed Answer:
often I answer them before they are asked as in this case

about all the options are another narcotic or an aspirin like drug

obviously you would want a narcotic that is as different from the ones that failed as possible
that would be car on or Tramadol

aspirin like drugs are really good but they can cause complications like bleeding so the decision would have to be by the surgeon
