Question: Hi,

I am having hairfall problem since many years. However from last 2 years my scalp has become visible. Also i am facing hair greying. My age is 27 years and i am working in IT. Last year i was diagnosed with IBS. My treatment for IBS is ongoing, and is in control right now. I have stopped intake of supplements which i have been taking earlier. I have started intake of milk, eggs and other stuffs recomended for hairfall. Still i dont see much difference.Should i start with Biotin intake? Will it help for hairfall and premature greying?

Brief Answer:
Undergo certain tests, can take biotin for hair fall

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
There are many causes of hair loss and treatment depends on the cause.
The most commonly causes encountered by me are thyroid disorders, anemia, certain drugs, fevers like typhoid and malaria, surgery, chronic diseases and after delivery.
I recommend you to undergo haemoglobin, serum ferritin levels and TSH test to rule out the anemia and thyroid disease.
You can get back to me once the results come so that we can manage it accordingly.
As far as greying of hair is concerned I recommend my patients to start with melitane 1 percent gel on the affected areas of the scalp along with tablet containing calcium pantothenate 100 mg twice daily. This needs to be continued for atleast 6 months. This will prevent greying of hair but will have partial effect on hair that are already grey. You can also start with biotin supplements as they will prevent hair fall but don't have effect on greying of hair.
I hope to have answered your query.

Dr Asmeet
