Question: Doctor
I am student. 21 years old. From Malaysia. Moved to Dublin.Experienced hair loss. I went back to Malaysia for 3 weeks break and the hair fall immediately stopped within 1 week. But after I came back to Dublin, My hair loss became severe. Is it due to weather. I am really a happy go lucky guy. Dont have much stress. Really maintain my stress well. Both my parents don't have baldness gene. Im consuming considerable amount of vitamins, protein. I eat fruits, raisins, sunflower seed daily. I oil my scalp twice a week. Not using any styling creams or gels. Will this hairfall stop? Or will I go bold. I dont have money to consult dermatologist here. I hope you can give me some tips.

Thank You doctor

Brief Answer:
Weather change is the problem!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully and this is certainly related to change in weather/climatic conditions. This is supported by the fact that your hair fall in Dublin stopped immediately you returned to Malaysia. Added to this, there are two conditions that must be met for any one to develop baldness: Family history and excess male sex hormones. Without a family history, it means you are not a candidate for baldness. This leaves weather changes as the most plausible explanation for your symptoms.

If I may ask, what is the major difference between the climate in Malaysia and that in Dublin§ That will be a good place to start from so as to make propositions that will help mirror the usual conditions in Malaysia.

I hope this guides and sheds some more light on this worry. I look forward continuing this discussion. Until then, I wish you well.

Thank you doctor. Its kind of tropical weather in Malaysia. hot but humid throughout the year. Ranging from 27°c - 35 °C . Meanwhile, its four seasonal weather in Dublin. Lowest recorded when I was around is -4°C. my hair is always dry. but its still the same even after I practice using hair oil.

Brief Answer:
I will say do nothing at this time. IT is temporary!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The changes in climatic condition are huge and certainly accounts for this increased her falling. However, your hair would grow back immediately you return home. Besides, no one can get bald from climatic conditions alone. Therefore, stay calm, follow through with school and be rest assured that the intrinsic growth capacity of your hair is intact and would eventually grow back when you are back to your home country.

In all, be reassured that this has no long term consequences and is mainly transient in nature.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up if more worries come up.
