What Causes Severe Ear Pain?

Question: My ears hurt really bad. . I went to the doctor and I have to busted ear drums and swimmers ear. . she told me to take 4 ibuprofen 4 times a day.. so that's every 6 hours.. When I take them the make it feel so much better. . like no pain.. but after 3 1/2 hours the medicine fades away... is there anything I can do to make the pain stay away? help!

For the treatment of otitis externa or swimmer's ear, pain killers alone will not be sufficient. You will also require oral antibiotics and ear drops containing a combination of steroid and antibiotic. These combination medicines will reduce the pain and inflammation soon.

Continue with ibuprofen and avoid water getting into the ears and see your doctor for prescription of oral antibiotics and ear drops.
