What Causes Severe Ear Pain After A Flight Travel?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Jun 2017
Question: Yes, thank you! I have just arrived in Quebec City yesterday. My ear ache started before I left New Mexico and continued thru the flight yesterday and into today. I have not recently been swimming. The pharmacy gave me Auralgan which I have used just now. But the pain is more intense now. It feels like someone hit me in the ear. Should I go to hospital before the weekend? Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query.

If your symptoms seem no better or more intense then it may be reasonable to go to a local urgent care center or ER

The concern is that you may have an infection.

An antibiotic ear drop and possibly an oral antibiotic may be indicated in your case but you would need a good physical exam to determine the best approach in your case.

Since ear infections can be very uncomfortable, I think you should be seen soon by a medical professional.

Feel free to ask further.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga
