Brief Answer:
possible bronchitis vs. pneumonia

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with a bad upper respiratory infection and now increased cough. You may just have a flu or viral URI but since you are starting to get more chest symptoms you may have bronchitis or pneumonia. For the cough I usually recommend taking a cough suppressant and expectorant. My favorite is Delsym due to its longer duration of cough suppression. If the symptoms worsen though I would recommend you seek medication attention and be screened for bronchitis and pneumonia. You would then need to be on antibiotics and possibly an inhaler.

In summary
1. URI use cough suppressant and expectorant
2. Bronchitis or pneumonia seek medical attention
3. Treat with antibiotics
