What Causes Severe Body And Joint Pains After Taking Niftran And Atorvastatin Combination?

Question: My wife is being treated for an UTI infection with Niftran and has been advised to take it for six weeks after she completed an aggressive dose of antibiotics to bring down the infection. She also takes 5 mg of cholesterol lowering medication ( statins) which has also been started recently. She is experiencing severe body and joint pains of late. Do statins interact with Niftran and is this the reason for body ache?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your wife has been treated for UTI and have been prescribed Niftran (Nitrofurantoin) and she is also taking Atorvastatin 5mg daily to lower her Cholesterol levels .

Nitrufurantoin is known to have interaction with Atorvastatin and this may be the reason for your wife to have joint pains ,and body ache.

Please consult your treating Physician and make him aware about it.

Discontinue taking Atorvastatin
