Question: hello.
My name is XXXXXXX I have a new sensitivity to alcohol. if I have a small amount of gin and tonic, what feels like a tension headache begins. I get the same result no matter what I drink. I also get immediate acid reflux.
Within the last 6 months, if I drank on an empty stomach, I would vomit immediately. I also get what feels like some kind of neuropathy and
dryness in my hands. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Look like side effects of Alcoholic beverage consumption!

Detailed Answer:
Warm welcome from Dr. Hanif . Thanks for your trust in HCM.

I have carefully worked through your case and it seems that you are facing the adverse effects of alcohol consumption. Actually these are due to metabolic end products of alcohol e.g Formaldehyde. These metabolites cause irritation of the chemical receptors in brain and cause nausea, vomiting, weakness and sick feelings. Neuropathic manifestations like you are feeling Pathological symptoms in hands, are also due to Chronic alcohol consumption and Malnutrition .

If you will drink on an empty stomach, definitely it will cause more absorption of alcohol and it's it's levels will raise more than usual. It causes more sever gastric sickness.

Please consult a Gastro-entrologist for in person evaluation and management. He will go for physical examination and will run a battery of tests on you to find the cause.

Alcohol also damages the Liver that is an organ of detoxification of metabolic end products that are destined to be expelled out of body. If liver damages, detoxification is slower and inefficient leading to more features of Alcoholic intoxication.

Please avoid alcohol as much as you can and go towards abstinence. May be you need to join a rehabilitation program to refrain from drinking that is problematic.

Hope it helps. Feel free to contact me anytime for further assistance if needed. I will be happy to help.

Regards!
