What Causes Seeing Flashes Of Light In Vision?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: Yes I went to the doctor yesterday about my eye..I have been having flashes of light..I have had a retinal tear..3 of them.. They have all been repaired..and wanted to check things out..he told me my retinal was sealed well but I had vessels that looked attenuated..I was stressed at the visit and had to wait for a long time..would that cause the vessels to look this way..he said I had a posterior staphyloma..is that caused from being nearsighted or glaucoma..my pressures have been high in the past but they have been watching them..I do get stressed out..over health issues..my blood pressure will shoot up every now and then due to anxiety. Should I be taking something for it.? Will the staphyloma make me lose vision?...

Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for sending your query to us.
Yes flashes are a early signal of danger but since you have got it checked now tben it is ok.
Being stressed will not lead to attenuation of arteries as it is a structural change.
Anxiety is always a issue and we prefer something like yoga to medication. These spikes of bp are to be avoided.
Staphyloma is basically a structural defect due to near sightedness and there is nothing you can do about it other than having repeated follow up retinal examinations .
You apparently are in good hands and are being well taken care off so rest assured and do not add to anxiety.

I just got my report from the doc..it seems like I might have a erm on my right eye as well..my disc are flat sharp and good color"my vitreous is syneresis 2+3+. I have posterior staphyloma in both eyes. What is staphyloma..can it be due to glaucoma por just being nearsighted? Will it affect my vision? Another doc thought I had glaucoma because on occasion my pressures would be on the high side 24/24.although yesterday they were at 18/17.another doc told me several years ago that I had thicker than normal corneas. I asked my retina doc if he thought I had glaucoma..he said that he was a retina doctor but he did not see anything that stood out to be glaucoma. Would he be able to see something in the eyes? My power is -10 in right eye and -7.00 in the left eye..will I be able to keep my sight ?? Thanks so much doctor!!!!
Also doctor do most people have attenuated vessels at my age...that is what the tech told me..is this correct.?

My dear,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Your reports are ok.Post.Staphyloma is formed due to extra enlargement of eye ball in one segment due to overall enlargement occuring due to myopia.
Checkup for glaucoma are very important as it may b comoflouged due to thinness of covering. So your doctors keep a watch for glaucoma. That is the reason i commented that you are under competent care.
Attenuation of vessels is ok at this stage.
You are fine. You have to have follow ups forretina and glaucoma and avoid hheavy jerky exercises.ea

Thanks for getting back to us.
People with retinal tearhave to avoid lifting heavy weights like boxes and jerky exercises like badninton these jerks can cause retina to tear, whic you alredy had.
Consult your retina doctor about this as he has the exact idea of your retinal health. This is the general advice we give.
ERM is not much for you to worry about.
