Question: What are the top reasons (other than food/drink) which can cause salty lips/gums?

Dear Ma'am, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but there are several reasons that can cause this salty taste.. these causes include:
1) dehydartion , this is the most common cause of salty mouth and can be easily corrected by drinking adequate amounts of water ( at least eight cups daily)
3) post nasal drip , which usually occur with cases of allergy and sinusitis .. post nasal drip especially if infected contains high concentration of salt and can lead to salty mouth
4) salivary glands infection which leads to the production of abnormal saliva with high levels of sodium and chloride in it
5) vitamin b12 and zinc difficiencies can lead to this salty taste of your mouth.
