Brief answer....it is a fungal infection caused by either skin to skin contact or by sharing clothes like towels.
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Although the name suggests as if it is caused by a worm but in fact it is caused by a fungal infection. This fungal infection lives and spreads on top layer of skin as well as hair.
It is a contagious disease and spreads by skin to skin contact or by sharing of clothes like towels, bed sheets, sports gears, combs etc.
It can also be transmitted by your pets to you.Cats are the common carriers.
This type of fungus thrives best in warm and moist conditions like sweating.
Treatment includes...
Keeping skin clean and dry
Apply anti fungal creams
Oral anti fungal tablets are taken if infection re occurs or is there for a long time.
Better to wash your bed sheets and nightclothes every day during the treatment time.
I hope it helps however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
