What Causes Right-sided Abdominal Numbness And Abnormal Sensations Under The Ribs?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Mar 2016
Question: Good afternoon! So I am trying to rule out what is happening and if it is critical to me and my health. I have this weird feeling on the right side of my abdomen just underneath the ribs and going a little towards the left. That side has a weird physical feeling when I move my hand up and down that area, unlike the left side where it doesn't have that feeling. If I sit for extended periods of time, that area becomes numb and I have to sit back to relieve the numbness but then my back hurts. Sometimes something pinches it and it twitches giving me a slight shock. I have no idea what this is. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Doesn't really fit a good spinal cord region for problems SO---

Detailed Answer:
Good afternoon. Thanks for your question. I've read your symptoms over carefully and was trying to envision or "feel" what you mean by a "weird feeling....is it hot, cold, tingling, vibratory, rough, numb, prickly, squeezing, Silly putty'ish, painful? And then, for the area to become numb after a few moments is definitely a bit odd. The pain when you lean back doesn't XXXXXXX me since you are likely in an uncomfortable or unusual position. The sudden "pinches and twitches" also may be nothing at all but if this continues to go on for any length of time without resolving then, you will need an examination by a doctor followed by possibly some blood work looking for some type of nutritional deficiency such as B12, Vit. D, or folate.

The problem with young people exercising and dieting is often times they're not quite able to do both of those things the right way without sacrificing necessary nutrients and as a result end up relying on a lot of supplements or other foodstuffs (advertised as good when in reality they are terrible) and then, you end up with nutritional difficulties.

That could explain some of the "weird feelings"....on the other hand if all that is normal then, I would likely try and get an appointment with a neurologist who will then, decide if maybe an imaging study would be worthwhile.

I hope this addresses your concerns and that you'll keep me in mind for future questions regarding these or other neurological/medical issues I may be able to help answer. Feel free to upload more specific information regarding lab tests and diagnostic studies if done and I'll be happy to look at them.

Otherwise, I'd appreciate your rating this interaction with a HIGH STAR SCORE and would be grateful for a few words of feedback. In addition, I'd appreciate your CLOSING THIS QUERY if you're satisfied with the responses.
