What Causes Right Knee Pain While Walking?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Oct 2016
Question: As I get out of my car driver seat (after a 45 mins continuous drive), my right knee hurts. I feel comfortable after five minutes of standing or walking a little.
I have observed this in the last one month.

I understand this may be because of natural ageing.
What kind of precautions and exercises should I start, that may help controlling this condition.

Notes:
* I drive 45 mins one way between home and office
* At office, most of my work involves sitting in front of the ubiquitous "LAPTOP" :)
* I walk on the treadmill at least two days in a week (evenings) for 30 mins
* I am a vegetarian, with milk (almost daily) and egg (twice a week) intake. Zero intake of meat.

Thank you.
Warm regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

How was your day?

Hope this message finds you in good health.

I have gone through your query in detail and understand your concern.

you may be having chondromalaciae patellae..which means softening of the cartilage cushion inside the joint that may be due to an old injury. its not likely to be due to ageing process as you are pretty young still.

any activity that needs the knee to be bent to more than 90 degrees, should be avoided...e.g ,climbing stairs, squatting etc. 45 min driving is ok. treadmill walking is also good for knees.

apart from this, there are a few knee strenghthening exercises that can be done to keep your knee young and fit.

at present, eat calcium tablets and glucosamine + chondroitin sulphate tablets to make your bones and cartilage strong.

You should eventually get back to normal in coming few days.Nothing to worry about.

I hope your question has been answered.

Feel free to consult me anytime for follow-up queries.

Take care,God bless.

Thank you very much Doctor. Sincerely appreciate your guidance in this matter.
Yes, I am doing well and hope you too are.

My follow-up queries are:
* Can you please suggest few knee strengthening exercises?
* Regarding calcium tablets and glucosamine + chondroitin sulphate tablets; can you please suggest dosage and duration please?

Or do you recommend I having to consult a physician in-person.

Thank you.
