What Causes Redness On The Toes And Under The Feet?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Aug 2016
Question: My wife bottom of her feet looked like they were rubbed to look like rough skin & red color. Then the red color started going up the side of her feet & some on her toes. Her XXXXXXX Dr looked at them & had no idea what it was. This has been going on about 3 weeks. Your help would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
It sounds like she has some sort of infection going on in her feet. Fungal infection is the most common and she could try a medication that you can buy over the counter for athlete's foot and see if that will take care of the problem. Lotrimin and Terbinifine are good choices.
If she develops fever, if it spreads rapidly or pain then it could be a bacterial infection and she should see her doctor right away or go to emergency.
If it is not infectious then there are any number of dermatological conditions like dermatitis or psoriasis that can cause skin damage with redness and peeling. If she does not have an infection then she would need to see a dermatologist or podiatrist to determine the cause of her foot condition.
I hope she gets relief soon.
