Question: Often after I vomit I have swollen, red and itch palms, soles of my feet and sometimes other areas (back of my neck etc..). My face is also red and swollen. What causes this? I'm pregnant and worried this could harm my baby.

Brief Answer:
Here are a few things to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

Vomiting and nausea are actually natural events which occur in pregnancy , there frequency and severity may differ from person to person.

I would try to mention your concerns here;

1) Swelling and redness of face and numbness of body: this normal, every severe bout of vomiting causes very high pressure in abdomen which causes blood to leave abdomen and enter face and limbs, it also prevents blood coming back from face and limbs to enter abdomen and heart ,so due to high content of blood the face and limbs swell up and get red... one may also have tears in eyes and numbness of face hands and legs.

2) Does it effect the child? usual frequency and severity does not effect a child as it is natural process and part of pregnancy events... but if vomiting is very severe that you start to get dehydrating or you are unable to to eat enough food then it can cause low birthweight baby.

You will have to see in this regard if you are well hydrated there is no issue, if vomiting is normal frequency there shoudnt be any issues. Problem arises when frequency is so much increased that you are unable to nourish yourself and keep yourself hydrated.

What to do? use home remedies to control vomiting, if they dont work then visit your doctor to discuss pregnancy safe vimiting medication there are a number of them available.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask,otherwise close the discussion and rate it.
