What Causes Redness And Irritation On Buttocks?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: Hello, In November of 2014 I noticed that (for better terms) my butt crack was irritated and red. While sitting I experienced a sore and uncomfortable feeling just above my anus in the center of the cleft and at the top of the cleft. There were small mounts of blood on tissue paper and a bit of puss discharge. There is no visible abscess and none felt by touch. However, the skin seemed to be slightly splitting in the top and bottom of the irritated cleft areas. There was a minimal amount of itching. I visited an urgent care doctor since my primary care MD couldn't get me in. The Urg. care MD believed it to be skin irritation and prescribed a topical ointment to reduce inflammation and a skin moisturizer. It got a little better and then returned. I have been using an anti-fungal thinking it may have been a fungal infection. I have been showering twice daily and using cleaned linens and clothing. This has had some effect but I'm still experiencing symptoms. What's next Doctor?

Brief Answer:
Could be anal fistula; set appointment for a surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There could be a number of causes for you complaint and on the top of the list is anal fistula. In this condition an abnormal communication is formed through which discharge occurs. I would recommend you following thing:

1. Set an appointment with a surgeon as he is specialized in dealing with this problem. He will perform examination and advise followup depending upon the severity.
2. Take very good care of your personal hygiene.
3. Wash thoroughly after using toilet.
4. keep that area dry with toilet paper.
5. lignocane gel application on that area will reduce soreness as this gel has local anesthetic effects.
6. Don't wear tight clothes.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Thank you very much for the response Doctor. I will consult a surgeon regarding the issue. Another quick question, how invasive, on average, is the operation and the length of recovery should this be the case?

Brief Answer:
Healing occurs gradually over a period of month(if care taken)

Detailed Answer:
Hello

You are most welcome. I'll be available 24/7 for your help.

Thank you for the followup query. It depends upon the severity of extent. If its small then it can managed on OPD basis but if deep then first time it needs surgery under spinal anesthesia(not very invasive but details can be given by a surgeon only). Later on you need to take general care (which would be given in detailed by treating surgeon). If you take good care then healing gradually occurs within a month.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
