What Causes Red Patches Throughout The Body?
Question: I have red patches all over my body for last 36 hours. There is no cold, no running nose, no fever. Blood pressure and pulse is normal. CBC count is normal. Saw the neighborhood doc. She says it is measles. Prescribed Telefast 180 mg once a day and Zinoximor 500 mg twice a day.
I had a CT scan 8 days back with contrast. Confirmed with cardiologist that reaction from contrast after 6-7 days is not possible.
Pl advise if this looks like measles. If so, is it ok to take anti allergic and antibiotic, as I read on net that it is a viral infection. What food should I avoid? I am told to eat normal food with lot of curd and water.

You can continue taking Telecast, which is an antihistamine, to help relieve itching.
Zinoximor is an antibiotic prescribed in measles if there is associated bacterial infection like otitis media (ear infection), pneumonia, sinusitis etc.
It is safe to take the antibiotic and antihistamine in measles.
There is no dietary restriction. You can continue the regular diet. However, it is better to avoid too fatty, fried food as it can upset your stomach.
Include food rich in vitamin A and C like carrots, spinach, and fruits.
Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. Take adequate rest.
You can also take Tylenol (if not allergic) if fever develops.
You will be contagious for 4 days after development of rash. Take precautions to avoid the spread of the virus. Always wear a mask/close your mouth with a towel while coughing/ sneezing. Wash hands thoroughly.

Apparently there is no side issue like breathing problem etc.
I am not fond of antibiotics, being allergic to augmentin. Also I read in the literature that antibiotics should be taken only if the bacterial infection exists.
Should I really take Zinoximor without any issues being apparent, or could do without it?

Antibiotics are only needed if there is co-existing bacterial infection along with Measles.
The bacterial infection could be in your lung, ear or sinus(as I've already mentioned in my previous answer). Underlying chest infection can be present even without ant outward symptoms like breathing difficulty.
The only way to confirm the need for antibiotics is after examining you in person.
Your doctor must have suspected an underlying infection while examining you and decided the need for antibiotics.
If you are concerned, I would recommend discussing this with your treating physician and discuss with him/her regarding why was the antibiotic prescribed to you. Please do not discontinue antibiotic without discussing with your treating physician first.
