What Causes Red Looking Skin Between Eyes And Lower Forehead?

Posted on Tue, 1 Apr 2014
Question: I have red & angry looking skin between my eyes/lower forehead. Dermatologist said to use Selsum Blue shampoo on it regularly but it does nothing. Recently, I tried sleeping with an application of it but after a while, it really hurt the bruised skin & I had to wash it off. I've also tried an RX fungal cream I had for something else but that doesn't help either. Can a dermatologist help???

Brief Answer: Seborrheic dermatitis Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your concern and i have understood it. I would keep a possibility of Seborrheic dermatitis of the face. Seborrheic dermatitis can affect the scalp, face ( area between the eye brows, sides of the nose, chin and upper lip area). Clinically it presents as redness and flakiness/scaling and itching. Etiology is largely unknown but it has been postulated that composition of sebum, malessezia yeast and inflammation, all play a role in development of seborrheic dermatitis. It has a remitting and relapsing course. In my patients of seborrheic dermatitis of the face, I usually recommend a moderately potent topical steroid cream e.g fluticasone, twice daily for 2-4 weeks. Once the condition becomes alright it can reappear again. Therefore the treating doctor might advice you to use a topical immunomodulator e.g pimecrolimus or tacrolimus once or twice daily for maintenance. I hope this answers your query regards

Brief Answer: Topical immunomodulators Detailed Answer: Hi. Pimecrolimus and tacrolimus are topical immunomodulators. They are considered to be steroid sparing agents and can used for mild disease and for maintenance after stopping steroids. Unlike steroids they can be safely used for long term as well. regards
