Question: Been having very bad reaction to almost every drugs and vitamin supplements I took, my mind would shut down an become disoriented, face becomes bloated l, eyes gets red itchy and ringing in the ears, everything seemed bright and mind zoned out and detached, also once I had fever and my mind shuts down like everythings just dark and losing sense of reality at that time I took antibiotics and it helped.. Taking antibiotics has helped other times too but the problem returns after several weeks.. Some doctors thought I had depression and anxiety so they prescribed clonazepam and esitalopram but again because of adverse reactions I stopped, after that the nusea, bloated face, itchy eyes were triggered even after taking meal and a banana, after several months I avoided every drug and vitamin pills.. And the problem has eased a little but still now my face is a little bloated, and red itchy eyes keeps coming and going, my mind is shut, at times I get chills, and extreme mental lethargy, disconnected from emotions and feelings, ringing in ears, feels like I have low fever and headache.. Is this due to an infection? or allergy?

Brief Answer:
Please list your previous medications.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. True allergy to all antibiotics and medications is very rare.

2. If you have been repeatedly prescribed antibiotics from the fluoroquinolone group, it is possible that you have a familial or genetic toxicity to the fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics which may present with these symptoms.

3. Hence please elaborate on the exact medications taken in the past.

4. If there is a resistant infection, repeated deep nasal and throat swabs will reveal any resistant organisms. Test for bacteria as well as fungus infections.

5. Allergy can be tested. You can get Skin Prick Tests (SPTs such as AllergoSPT), Food intolerance tests (such as Food Detective or FoodPrint) done. Sometimes, the allergy is to other components of the medication such as colouring agents, preservatives, binders, resins, fillers and so on.

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Yes antibiotic was prescribed for many years from time to time for infection near the cheek only to be found later that the infection was caused by an ingrown third molar, as much as I remember the most prescribed was clavam, and ofloxacin, ornidazole was given four or five courses, I was also on antidepressants for some minor issue which I believe was unesessary which led me to a downhill of more and more psychiatric drugs like quetiapine which I tapered off thats when I started having unusual adverse reactions to nutritionAl supplements.. Then I saw a doctor who gave me eliwel and prodep to deal with the withdrawel had severe adverse reaction to it when I drank beer.. Then he treats me with more supplements and psychotropic drugs and I began having more and more adverse reactions etc etc... Thats how it all happened.. Nexfolin, moshiba, meganeuron plus, fourt active, felicita od, eliwel, prodep, quetiapine, clonazepam, clobazam, lyconez, clavam, ofloxacin & ornidazole, felicita od, mosiba, chlorhexetine gel, bio XXXXXXX ... maybe I overdosed on vitamins psychotropic and antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
Most likely drug induced.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, this seems to be the case.

2. The list is too many to pin-point the exact medication/s. There is also cross reactivity between similar medications (of the same group).

3. It is good that you have discontinued most of these medications.

4. Proceed with the swabs and allergy tests. Upload the reports.

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards

Currently no facility for the test you asked for in the town I live in, will be moving to another city. This mind shutting down, disconnected from emotions, mental lethargy, are this also caused by fungal or bacterial infections? as I also feel like sick at times, and itchy eyes comes and goes.. My main concern is the mental problem, and only if its more likely to be related to infections then I want to get the test done.Forgot to mention, clogged mind and ear with ringing sound, mental fatigue, low grade fever at times, decreased smell and taste, mild facial bloating, previously when I took antibiotics this symptoms resolve but returns after several weeks..

Brief Answer:
It is possible that there is a chronic infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, it may be a chronic infection, auto-immune condition or a side effect of medications.

2. Go ahead with the above mentioned tests. Get your auto-immune blood test work-up done in addition.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
