What Causes Red Bumps With White-heads All Over The Body In A Child?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Dec 2015
Question: Hello. My daughter has allergies, but we've never seen anything like this. Could this be a bugbite, staph infection or maybe chicken pox? Its all started today. Not sure if she was bitten last night or today at daycare. She is not running a temperature. Seems normal aside from red bumps, some of which have a whitehead like tip.

Brief Answer:
It seems to be more like a staph infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I have gone through your question and photographs. I understand your concerns but don't worry. The skin lesions are more likely due to staph infection. It can be easily treated with oral and local antibiotics. You may start her on Amoxicillin or Augmentin if she is not allergic to these drugs for next 3-5 days.

Use fusidic acid ointment twice daily application over the skin lesions.

Since she has allergic tendency and staph can also flare up the histamines in body, so start antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine or fexofenadine along with the above treatment.

Hopefully this will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care
