What Causes Recurring Skin Rashes In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Apr 2017
Question: My mother is 86 yr old. She's been suffering from a reacurring skin rash for months. We've been seeing an allergist who has determined the eliquis 2.5 mg tablets that mother takes twice a day for afib is the allergen. We have contacted her cardiologist and cannot get a response. My mother needs off the eliquis now! My question is: understanding that eliquis cannot be stopped without a suitable replacement, (she has been on every possible blood thinnng medication except savaysa, which she refuses), would a 81 mg aspirin, 400 iu vitamin E, 1g salmon oil, and 1 g garlic daily be a suitable replacement? Or would it be too much?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that 81mg of Aspirin coupled with the above supplement is quite enough, as a blood thinner for the prevention of stroke, considering her age.

As her allergist has determined that Eliquis is the main causative agent of her allergies, I would recommend stopping Eliquis cold turkey. She can start Aspirin after 12 hours from the last dose of Eliquis.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

These drugs do not interact with Cardizem and Norvasc.

So, she can take all these drugs concomitantly.

Kind regards!
