What Causes Recurring Dizziness In A 85 Year Old Male?

Posted on Sat, 26 Mar 2016
Question: I had in bed just awakening turning from my right side to my left side a very rapid dizzying circular sensation (counter clockwise ). Ju when I thought to black out the speed lessened and I could move my head back somewhat to my right side which caused a much less speedy and less severe circular sensation but clockwise. I felt like a toy top unable to do anything. Half an hour later I felt OK again and gut up but than it suddenly returned a weird sensation of being overcome by this powerful circular sensation. An hour later I washed out my ears with a wax removing rubber squeeze ball but no wax came out.. Again an hour later in the bathroom the sensation returned but anly the initial dizzying feeling not resulting in cvirculat top like motion. What does it mean. Now latyer again it still does not feel right but as long as I not lie down or bent over I am OK. I am male and just became 85 years old

Brief Answer:
You have what we call BPPV or vertigo

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM: Please note that you have vertigo or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, this comes about due to your ear canals getting blockages with "stones', these stones can form due to dehydration, and even the medication that you have been on for years did not help. Please note that this needs some maneuvers called Eppley Maneuvers to dislodge the said stones so that your ear canals function as they should. Please call your regular doctor and they will provide the referral normally to Physical therapy, if this fails then you may need to be placed on a medication to stop the said sensation. I hope this helps. Take care.
