What Causes Recurring Blood Filled Bumps On The Buttocks?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 May 2016
Question: My daughter had a blood filled bump on her buttocks. She has had them for several months. They go away but leave a darkened spot like a scar or a bruise. When they pop she says there is blood. This one is smooth, no puss, and flat on top. No open skin.
I hope you can help.

I tried emailing them. Thank you for your patience as we figure out the site. As I was getting more photos tonight after her shower I saw a bit of blood and as I gently pushed, more came out. It seemed dark and thick, although I don't spend much time with blood. I didn't see puss though. Hope this helps.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be folliculitis or inflammed acne

Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs and according to me their are 2 possibilities: either Folliculitis which is inflammation of the hair follicles or Inflammed acne papules.

In such cases I recommend my patients to take oral and topical antibiotics.
I recommend them to take tablet cefixime 200 mg twice daily for 7 days along with application of mupirocin cream on the affected area twice daily till it resolves.
These are prescription medicines and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

\To prevent recurrence I recommend them to continue applying topical antibiotic in the nostrils, external ears, finger web spaces, umblicus and peri anal area twice daily for atleast 6 weeks.
This reduces the chances of infection from carriage sites.
