What Causes Recurrent, Red And Itchy Lesion On Eyelid?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Jun 2015
Question: I have an intermittent problem with my left eye only. The evening before, I will notice that the eyelid becomes EXTREMELY itchy, and is also quite red, primarily the part of the lid closest to my nose. I wake up in the morning with a disfigured eye: terribly swollen (including a great big pouch that forms, especially in the skin BELOW the eye, but the upper lid is swollen, too -- often so I cannot open my eye). It looks terrible, and remains for several days. (I have severe Parkinson's now -- sorry about how slow I am typing -- but I used to be a Psychiatrist, and would worry that my patients might think my husband was abusing me!) I've talked to several doctors, and no one knows what causes this problem (often 4 - 6 times/yr.) I read something on-line in which my exact symptoms were reported, and the diagnosis was Eczema. Your thoughts? Many thanks for any ideas!

Brief Answer:
This can be eczema.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
These symptoms of recurrent, red and itchy lesion indicate a probable allergic blepharitis.
The common causes for allergic blepharitis is eczema.
This requires treatment by the use of antiallergic drugs.

Hence this can be eczema as rightly thought by you.

If possible do send me a photo of the affected eye so that I can confirm the diagnosis and advice you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
