Brief Answer:
Could you please upload an image

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. But before trying to answer your question I would need to take a look at the nails. I would request you to click an image of his hands (with the fingers and the nails of course) and upload it using the facility on the upper right of this page. Based on that I will definitely try to help you out.

I will await your response.

Brief Answer:
It is a common association with HFMD (hand foot and mouth disease)

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have checked the attached images. It is nothing but onychomades which is characterized by a painless spontaneous separation of the nail plate from the bed, beginning at the proximal end with subsequent shedding of the nail as the new nail grows. It occurs as a result of temporary arrest of nail growth at the nail matrix. No treatment is required for onychomadesis, and onward referral to specialist is unnecessary. Please be reassured that spontaneous regrowth of a new normal nail is likely to be seen within a few months

He had hand foot mouth disease about a year ago and lost toe nails and fingernails. It is now a year later, and the nails are starting to come off again. He has not had any signs of the disease again. Can the nail loss keep happening after a year?

Brief Answer:
Can occur

Detailed Answer:
I understand that there are no other signs but such nail loss can occur even after a year. You will have to be patient. It does not require any specific intervention.
