What Causes Rashes On Torso, Legs And Face While Having A Cold?
Question: My 15 yr old daughter has been flat and run down with a cold she couldn't seem to shake for about 2 months - lots of Dr visits but no real answers since there were no really specific symptoms. 3 weeks ago she was given penicillin (I think as a last resort) due to slightly swollen glands and a red throat. She took the course for 7 days and seemed to pick up. She now has a lights raised rash (it only appeared 2 days ago so I don't think it is related to the antibiotics because she has been off them for almost 2 weeks) - she says that it is not overly itchy but that she is tired and "miserable and achy" again. The rash is mainly on her torso but is also on parts of her neck and face as well as her legs. She has been fully immunised and we haven't done anything different (no new products or foods etc). She is over being sick and very, very reluctant to go back to the doctors because she's sick of being "inspected". I have just been treating the symptoms but I'm worried that I'm being a bad mum by not making her get checked again.
Brief Answer:
looks like allergic or viral rash
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I have seen the attached picture.
Based on your description and the image it looks like allergic or viral rash.
Don't worry it should settle soon.
I usually prescribe oral antihistamines like allegra for a day or two.
I also prescribe calamine lotion with aloe vera to be applied three times a day.
If she becomes dull with fever it is better to consult your doctor again.
Ensure she drinks plenty of liquids to keep her hydrated.
Wishing your daughter good health Regards
