What Causes Pinching Pain In The Upper Right Abdomen?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Question: I have been experiencing a pinching type sensation in the upper right side of my abdomen for the past 3 weeks along with nausea and upset stomach. My doctor ordered a CT scan that did not show anything at all. My gallbladder was removed over 10 years ago and there is no fluid in the abdominal cavity. There were no visible obstructions. I am nauseous most every morning when I get up and stay that way most of the day. (I have had a hysterectomy so no chance of pregnancy.)

Brief Answer:
May need oesophagoduodenoscopy and stool analysis

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be even infective diarrhea as some bugs may cause loose stools with abdominal pains upto weeks so a stool analysis and microscopy should be done alongwith basic blood work up like complete blood count and liver functions as well as iron levels as part of malabsorption workup.

Also that if CT and ultrasound were unremarkable, then endoscopy or upper GI tract with biopsy for celiac disease and and stool antigen though it's late age of its presentation, but it's better to rule it out.

Meanwhile take soft diets, avoid heavy greasy meals and junk foods or fizzy drinks. It's better to limmit the intake of wheat and dairy products for few days and see the response.

Anti spasmodic like mebeverine can be used to stabilise motility as well as for pains. OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be used in between as well.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
