What Causes Phimosis At Old Age?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: I am 78 years old. Of late my foreskin is sore and cracks occur. It slightly burns while urinating. Is this due to phimosis at this age? What ointment should I apply? Please guide me.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com
This is Dr. Swarnava dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
Phimosis at old age can occur due to adhesion etc but it is not very common and you will have other features like problem with urination, problem with retraction of the foreskin beyond the glans etc. If those problems are not present, it is unlikely to be a phimosis. You can send a picture of the sore foreskin and i can tell you further. However, at this age, genital infection and diabetes can be two other causes for this. Because the foreskin is sore and cracked, while urinating, mild burning sensation is present, or it can be an associated urinary tract infection. I would suggest you the following-

Keep the genitals clean.
Take plenty of fluids per orally.
You can take levofloxacin 500 tablets twice daily for 5 days. This is an antibiotic and needs prescription by a doctor.
You can take urine alkaliniser syrup for 5 days.
You can use local antibiotic ointments or antibiotic-antifungal combination ointments.
Get your blood sugar tested.

You can consult your doctor for prescription of the above.
Get back to me with the pictures or the reports.

Hope i have answered your question.
If you have any further questions i will be happy to help.
Regards

I have diabetes and high BP since 4 years but under control with medication. I request you to suggest name of ointment for application. There is no problem in retracting skin. I will get urine tested and send you the findings. Thanks. Let me have name of the ointment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

You can use neosporin ointment and terbinafine ointment locally.
And get the blood sugar test done. If it is under control, then its fine. Otherwise you need to adjust doses.

Consult your physician for prescription of the above.

Wish you good health.
