What Causes Persistent Severe Abdominal Pain, Cramps, And Burning Sensation In Colon?

Question: QYes, thank you, Dr. For the past 3.5 w elks I've had bad abdominal pain, cramping, and intestinal burning. I've just discovered tapeworms in my cats' cans of food I lazily left in sink. I have chronic fatigue syndrome & am bipolar. I gave up on life & let housework slip terribly. There are small flies called "garbage bugs" here in SW FL. I believe they carry tapeworms. Could my continual abdominal pain be caused by a tapeworm infestation? Had CT scan & nothing unusual showed up. Lipase levels a little low.Thank you, sir, for your time.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question.

Tapeworm infestation would be highly unlikely, as a CT scan usually picks this up. If you remain highly concerned, you can get an analysis of a stool sample, called an O&P (ova and parasites), to test for tapeworm. But overall I think you should be reassuring from the scan results.
