What Causes Persistent Red Marks On Face Despite Taking Medication?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: Hello doctor,
My wife has developed some red marks on her face since two days.
On first consultation with the doctor, he said that this might because of some infection due to dust. So he prescribed Desowen, Venusia, and Allegra M. She took this for 7 days and the red marks were cured. Now, since last two days those marks appeared again. On second consultation with the doctor, he said that it might be due to cold winds.
Could you please suggest what these red marks are?

Hello My Dear

Welcome!

I am Dr V XXXXXXX a Sr Dermatologist.
I have gone through your query and noted your concerns.

I attend to a good number of cases with similar description. It is important for us to know what we are dealing with. This could be something that has not been considered so far.

You are requested to furnish a little more information so that I can help you the best:

1 Few pics

2 Does the rash appear related to cold wind exposure/ any other activity like use of cosmetics, certain foods/ any beauty parlor procedure/ steam inhalation etc

3 Does it itch and the distribution

4 Has it been there the first time

5 Any medication that she might be raking along.

In the meantime, following will help in relief:

1 frequent sponging using plain water
2 Tab Levocetrizine 5 mg a day
3 Avoid sun exposure
4 Observe any triggering factor.

I am waiting to hear from you. Best wishes!

Brief Answer:
Possibility of allergic response to some locally applied agent

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

Welcome with the details.
Thanks as this has helped a lot in getting better understanding.

The rash she is having is most likely due to some chemical, may be a cosmetic or pack, which was not well tolerated by her skin. Exact cause sometimes can be found out by a test called Patch test.

In such a case, I adopt the following measures with excellent response:

1 No cosmetics/ face applications of packs etc for the time being

2 Wash the area frequently, may be 4-6 times a day using just plain water at room temperature

3 Eumosone cream locally thrice daily for three days followed by twice a day use for another three days followed by further reduction

4 Avoid sun exposure and do not use even sunscreens as they may not be tolerated at this stage

5 Tab Levocetrizine 5 mg a day, preferably at night.

6 Simple food with least spices and avoidance of caffeinated drinks.

7 To report if any adverse feature is noticed

In all probability, she should start getting better in two to three days and recovery should remain smooth. I am there to help if needed.

My best wishes to both of you. It has been a pleasure interacting with you.

Thanks

Thanks a lot doctor. One more query: Were Desowen, Venusia, and Allegra M fine?
We have Desowen and Venusia remaining, can they be used?
I forgot mention one more thing, doctor has also prescribed using a herbal soap named, My Choice Herbal Soap.
Do you have any recommendation for soap or face wash?

Brief Answer:
Only follow advice just provided

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

1 the medicines that were being used were fine, but at this stage you need a different set of treatment

2 Desowen will not be so effective as the ones suggested

3 Venusia can be used as a cold cream, but not at this stage

4 Please avoid all soaps for now. If at all you need to use some soap thenpl go for a baby soap of your choice.

Thanks again,
All the best
