What Causes Persistent Itching After Eating Grapes?

default
Posted on Sat, 22 Jul 2017
Question: I spent over an hour separating wild grapes from stems while barehanded. After two days my hands are uncontrollably itching. The severity is such that I am literally digging my fingernails into my palms and fingers. Baking soda in warm water helps for a few minutes. Lotions effects are similar. What can I do?
Thank you in advance, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Probably you have developed contact dermatitis.
It is an allergic reaction.
I treat such cases with a combination topical steroid cream like cortisone twice daily for a week and antihistamine tablet like cetrizine to be taken daily once.
If there is no response a short course of oral steroid like prednisolone can be taken.
Meet your doctor and discuss regarding this.
If possible upload a photograph of the involved area.
This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis and better way of management.
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.

Thank you for your assistance. The cortisone cream has lessened the severity of itching. I am sorry that I have no way of providing photos. The only irregular appearance I can see are some small blisters between my fingers. The cream relief last several hours. Then I reapply. I do take a citrizine tablet once daily already.
My only question now is regarding the small blisters. Should I be using anything different for their elimination?
Than you so much for your help. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Use cortisone

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.
Blisters are also a part of allergy.
Continue with cortisone and cetrizine tablet for another week.
In addition you can dip your hand in saline water daily to reduce the blisters.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
