What Causes Persistent Fever And Body Chills With Dizziness?

Question: Last week I sent a query in regard to my friend which was answered by both a Cardiologist and an Endocrinologist, however, her health is no better.

My friend has been having persistent high temperatures, fevers, sweats, chills for the last six months and during this time her temperature has rarely been within normal range. She has seen an Internal Specialist, Neurologist, Lung Specialist, Cardiologist and has had an MRI, Pet Scan and other tests and blood tests. Since I asked the question last week where you indicated it may have to do with her adrenal glands, she has received the results back from the 24 hour urine test; along with associated blood test that's done in the morning (ACTH Test) and whilst she does not have copies of these results she was told the results were normal and she most likely does not have Pheochromocytoma.

She continues to experience the aforementioned symptoms; along with episodes of light-headedness that last between 10-20 seconds, episodes of dizziness which are generally worse upon standing and are eased a little by laying down with her eyes closed. She also experiences an irresistible urge to stretch out her legs as far as possible, like she can't relax them and feel like her legs are having a seizure - this mainly happens at night. Her most recent temperature reading (using an ear thermometer) was 39.8. She has not been able to work for the past couple of weeks.

What are your thoughts as to what is causing her unrelenting symptoms and are there any tests you could recommend?

Brief Answer:
Infective desease

Detailed Answer:
Dear
I carefully read your query
As your test and reports done till now are normal it means you have exluded malign syndrome (PET scan: normal)
In my opinion as the only persistent symptom is febrility I would strongly reccomend that you consult an infectionist to determinate the right test which should be done (leishmaniasis, viral tests etc)
Parazytosis need to be exluded
An brain EEG need to be scheduled to see how is the brain suffering actual condition ( long time febrility )
It is rather difficult to find the cause of this long term febrility but I don't think your friend is suffering any risky desease
In my opinion it is just a rare viral or bacterial infection
Hope my answer will lead you in the right diagnose and treatment

Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. My friend is seeing a Neurologist today so will ask him about having a brain EEG. I think she has been told by an Internal Specialist that they didn't feel it was an infection.

Brief Answer:
Brain EEG

Detailed Answer:
Dear
As the only and persistent symptom is temperature in my opinion all bacterial and viral infections needs to be excluded
Discuss with your neurologist about my opinion
Brain EEG will not give the cause of this long term temperature but will give a lot of information about how brain is suffering this situation
I think your friend will have to do some more lab tests to exlude infection
Hope my answer will lead you to the right diagnose
