Question: Cough and fever of 102 starting day 3. Is it time to go to a doctor?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you can check with your doctor at this stage.

It is still possible the symptoms are due to cough/cold virus but with a high fever, the flu or a bacterial infection (eg chest) would need to be considered.

Till you can see your doctor you would continue with home therapy consisting of the following: (1) cold or cool fluids to help reduce your temperature. It is important to make sure to use enough fluids.

(2)making sure to dress coolly

(3)paracetamol/tylenol to help with the fever

(4)if the cough is wet- a mucolytic to help break up the mucus so that it can be expelled eg guaifenesin, bisolvan, mucomyst

(5)a decongestant to help with any nasal or post nasal secretions. These contribute the the coughing

If your doctor suspects a bacterial infection then antibiotics would be needed
