What Causes Persistent Chronic Nausea, Travel Sickness And Heaviness In Head?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Apr 2016
Question: Hi,
I've been suffering from chronic nausea for a number of years now, a feeling of travel sickness that lingers and interferes with my daily life including eating and socialising. I've noticed that my symptoms worsen after playing my guitar or reading a book, especially if my head is looking down. This also causes a heavy/full feeling in my head.

Please could you advise me as to what may be causing my symptoms

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Reflux, Motion sickness and Cervical spondylosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. A few conditions come to mind after reading your history:

2. These are acid reflux, Motion sickness and Cervical spondylosis.

3. Cervical spine X-rays should be done and further scanning should be based on the findings

4. Promethazine (Avomine) taken half an hour before travel helps control motion sickness.

5. Ear examination and hearing tests must be done to rule out other conditions.

6. Anti-relux treatment including a proton pump inhibitor (such as rabeprazole), a prokinetic (such as levosulpiride), a effervescent ranitidine (such as Histac EVT) and Mucaine gel should be started.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
