Brief Answer:
Most likely symptoms related to acid reflux

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thanks for posting your query at HCM.

your presentation is pointing towards GERD, even had you NOT used the phrase "god awful".

anyhow, More than 90% of patients present with heartburn.
you might be in the group ( less than 10%) who do not experience heartburn.

you may take pantoprazole or a Proton Pump Inhibitor 20 minutes before breakfast for atleast one month.
after one month, if you still experience the acid taste, then your advised to undergo endoscopic examination.

Any further questions are welcomed and i would be happy to clear your doubts.

Hope to answer your concern.
Wish you good and sound health.

Regards,
Dr Tayyab Malik
