Question: My son got married in May, both he and his wife were virgins, since their honeymoon he has had a painful rash on his penis. He has been to two dermatologist, and our family doctor. Many expensive creams have been tried and no help. He also has mouth ulcers that are very painful and rarely are all gone. Please help he is only 23 and miserable. If we knew of a doctor in the southeast that may be able to help him, I would get him there!

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
thanks for sending the question.

I have a couple of thoughts regarding the symptoms he is experiencing. First of all I wonder if they are using any type of lubricant or condom. He might be having an allergic reaction to this. Also if she was using any type of vaginal wash or soap this might also be creating some of the skin problem he is having.

The other possibility is that this is a fungal infection. Topical antifungal cream might be helpful. Sometimes however we must prescribed oral antifungal medication to help eliminate the problem.

I would encourage him to revisit this issue again with the dermatologist for further recommendations.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
