What Causes Painful Lower Abdomen Post Intercourse?
Can be due to muscle spasm, injury or urinary infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Its possible that you might have hurt your genitals or got a urinary infection following your rough sexual intercourse. This is a common symptom in many women and needs to be evaluated as per symptoms and most people get better in a week.
The vaginal walls are lined by a thin layer of mucosa and are sensitive to friction. If you are not in the habit of using lubrication jelly during sex then small cuts and abrasions might appear. Most of the time only pain is experienced which might disappear by itself.
A possibility of urinary infection cannot be ruled out. In women, the vaginal and urinary openings are close to each other and at times there can be an infection and that can reach your bladder. This is accompanied by burning during urination with acute lower abdominal pain and frequent urges to pass urine. For this you need to drink adequate amounts of fluids and water. Please do not hold urine. If the burning and pain is severe then a urine test for infection might be required after consulting with your doctor.
There is also a possibility of your lower abdominal muscles going into spasm. This is a direct result of having a rough sexual intercourse. The abdominal muscles on repeated and forceful contractions can go in to spasm and this is more on the second and third days after sex and resolves at the end of 4 to 5 days. Applying a hot or cold pack and muscle relaxant ointments might help.
Please avoid sex for about a week and do not do intense physical activities. Since CT scan abdomen is normal, it is unlikely that there is anything seriously wrong inside the abdomen.
Wishing you quick recovery.
