What Causes Painful Bruised Area Of Ring Finger After Injury?

Question: Hello,

I am a 53y.o. white male, 6'5" and about 230lbs, fairly good health overall. A couple of days ago, I went to grab something with my right hand, not with any great force, and the end joint on my right ring finger was suddenly hurting very sharply. In a very localized spot, too. This lasted about 15 minutes or so, then subsided. The next day (yesterday), I noticed that the area where the pain had been now was severely bruised, and also at the specific location, there is now a 1/2" long, thin white line under the skin, that's hard to the touch. The bruising remains, and is down the length of the finger from the white line. No previous injury to the area, that I can remember. Any ideas?
I should tell you, I've had these odd "cramps" in my fingers and hands before--somewhat infrequently, but when they occur--very painful! Thank you for your help!

Brief Answer:
Please, take pain medications.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what your experienced. This seems so atypical but, I believe there is a trauma component here. I strongly think that you injured a blood vessel during the initial trauma that bled slowly over time to cause this delayed secondary symptoms that you have reported. Seen the abrupt nature of onset, an infection has no place here as a possible cause.

For now, rest, ice packs and pain medications would help resolve the problem. should these measures fail to offer adequate relief and prevent progress, we would consider getting it fully examined.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
