What Causes Painful And Swollen Lymph Nodes In A Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Apr 2016
Question: Hello. My 12 year old daughter has had a localized swollen lymph node for over a month now. We have tried three doctors, three antibiotics, we have had a ultrasound, and we have done two blood draws- one for mono and one for cat scratch disease. So far, the node has not gone down in size. The doctors say that it is hard (so it does not indicate an absess. It is painful to the touch and itches. She now says that her bottom part of her jaw is kind of numb. What should our next step be? Do we need to see a pediatric ENT Doctor? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Likely benign, self resolving. ge evaluated though

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Swollen lymph node with normal tests is likely benign and self resolving. Even cold and flu or sore throat can give a swollen lymph node. However there is no harm in gettign evauated for the peace of mind. So get a paediatrician or an otorhinolaryngologist and let them have a look at it to see whether its a node or some thing else. Usually most of the nodes are benign and self resolving.

I hope it helps. Take good care of your daughter and yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
