Question: Hi I am a 44 yr old male that is just getting over the influenza virus 6th day. My concern is that just today my upper chest at the base of my neck hurts a lot when I cough and my neck glands are swollen. Is this possibly Bronchitis or pnemonia setting in?

Brief Answer:
It is too early to say about bronchitis and pneumonia.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HealthcareMagic.
I can understand your concern.
Honestly speaking, it is too early to say about bronchitis or pneumonia setting in.
Upper chest an base of neck can be hurt due to coughing. Coughing can cause musculoskeletal pain.
Enlarged cervical lymph node can be due to influenza itself.
So in my opinion, you should wait for 1 week more.
If after 2 weeks, you are still symptomatic then consult doctor to rule out bronchitis or pneumonia.
Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated. Avoid oily and spicy food. Avoid junk food. Avoid hard to chew food. Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
