Posted on Fri, 17 Mar 2017
Question: What increases my chances of heart disease? Left arm pain. Left breast pain. Moving to right breast - not bad at all. A lot of pain on left side. Had a breast exam by my primary doctor. She wrote left left mastodynia and atherosclerosis of aorta, but never explained anything to me. Can you.

Brief Answer:
Detailed investigations should be done to rule out coronary artery disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic,
Left sided chest pain moving to arm (especially inner aspect of arm) can be angina(cardiac pain),However breast tenderness and pain is not a classical feature of angina. your primary diagnosed it as mastodynia which includes a dull ache, heaviness, tightness, a burning sensation in the breast tissue, or breast tenderness.
Please mention the investigation done by her as atherosclerosis of aorta can be seen only in CT scans.
Atherosclerosis is a major cause of abdominal aortic aneurysm and is the most common kind of arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. This disease process can be seen in any blood vessel in the body and is the cause of coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease.
I would suggest you few baseline tests of cardiology to see if there is coronary artery disease or not.

Stress test-A cardiac stress test measures a heart's ability to respond to external stress any ischemia is suggested by ST-T changes on monitor.
2d echo-Motion of wall of heart and cardiac output is seen.Abdominal aortic aneurysm can be seen in 2d echo.
Tread mill test and 2d echo are 85% sensitive to rule out cardiac diseases.

Apart from that lipid profile,Fasting and pp blood sugar should be checked.
If all these tests are normal,Then you are clear from cardiac side.

Thanks.
