What Causes Pain In Hip With Normal MRI?

Below is our previous discussion regarding my daughter's hip pain. Meanwhile, I have a couple updates for you. Her MRI came back normal. She also rested for two weeks with no improvement. She is scheduled to meet with an orthopedic surgeon Wednesday. Any advice?

My 14 year old daughter is having pain in her right hip. Lateral rotation is painful and restricted. Medial rotation and flexion are fine. Duration is 3 months. XRays are normal. Physical therapy did not help. Ibuprofen provides marginal relief. She is very active, primarily as a dancer (10 hours per week). MRI scheduled for next week, but I am pessimistic about finding an answer there based on what I've read through this site. Here primary care doctor is speculating piriformis syndrome, iliotibial tract tendonitis, or hip bursitis, but none of those are likely to be confirmed or rejected based on MRI if I understand correctly. Please help if you can, dance competition season is fast approaching!

Thanks for your query.

After going through your query I concluded that your daughter may be having synovitis of hip as she has restriction of movements of hip and x ray is normal(excludes arthritis). Now there are three possibilities
1.Transient synovitis- but age and duration is not favoring.
2. Perthes Disease(early stage )
3.Tubercular synovitis -but there is no other symptoms such as loss of weight , loss of appetite and low grade fever.
Till MRI report comes treatment is rest to joint , avoid walking and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. ESR , TLC and DLC test may be of help.
You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
