What Causes Pain In Buttocks Radiating Down The Legs?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Jan 2015
Question: I recently had a colonoscopy inspection/operation which turned out ok except that next day I had pain in my buttock and top half of my leg. This has recently extended down my leg. Doctor has given me antibiotics ,2 lots which had no effect. He then sent me for an xray and the hospital say that my problem is arthritus. It seems strange that it came on so severely immediately after my colonoscopy and my other leg and limbs are pain free. Any suggestions? Could this have been caused by the colonoscopy operation? Thanking you XXXX or YYYY@YYYY

It may be arthritis

Well, to call it as arthritis right after surgery is unusual especially when you don't have any history in the past. However, considering the sort of pain you are having , it looks like either your hip joint is involved or it is originating from the lower back.

If it started right after surgery , one thing I would like to rule out is infection in the joints known as septic arthritis.

Now coming to the type of arthritis you have? If you could attach an x ray film or report which you got done that would be great. I want to see if it is age related or something else. Secondly I would want to know if you got the inflammatory markers done like ESR and crp after surgery

At times it does happen that a lot of underlying conditions get triggered by a stress situation like surgery. But yes we need to sort out the type of arthritis you have first before recommending you further prognosis and treatment

Awaiting your reply
